Default 2nd problem of the day-battery light

Hello;

I have researched the archives and see that the problem is (are) typically the battery cables. Can someone tell me where I can find the part numbers for all the cables I should change ?

Thanks

Spike, what I would tell you to do is to rip the battery cables right out of the X-Type, jump in one of your other kitties, give them a little exercise and you can pick up a generic cable at the auto parts store for around $20 a cable. As long as the cable is the same length (or longer) and had the same number of wires coming off of it, then you are golden.

The only other thing that I would possibly say you need to do is to put some masking tape on each end of the wires so you can write yourself a little note as to specifically where each wire gets landed. Hate to see you rip off the cables and then find out you can't remember where they go.

OEM Part numbers and recent CAD prices for my 2004 3.0 litre were:

c2s22082 $102
c2s44634 $134
c2s46400 $171

The third and most expensive cable links the positive battery cable at the battery post to the fuse box.

The fuse box needs to be unbolted and slightly disassembled to replace that cable. And if you are working from above, you will need a long socket extension to be able to work on the alternator connection _ from memory that is a 13mm bolt but don't quote me!

just as an add on to that - i had a battery light issue recently and replaced sequentially the battery, cables and then alternator.

Although the alternator was the problem, the battery and cables were overdue replacement so I'm glad that is done. However, what i found was that the battery light remained on until the alternator failed completely, at which point the battery warning light disappeared, after which i had around 100km of driving with no alternator before the battery was dead. Prior to completely giving up, the alternator had been making a whining noise and i can directly link the battery light disappearance with the disappearance of the whine. The disappearance of the battery light and whine simultaneously made me think the car had maybe fixed itself but no such luck!!!!
