3.0 X-Type rebuild
Well, I have been following I<3 jaguars post about picking a motor and was debating going that route, but I have decided to rebuild mine Instead. In this post I'll share photos and the experiences I have encountered throughout the way.
First off I'll briefly describe my experience level. I have replaced a few head gaskets and have handle all of my own mechanic work on my cars from creating a lift for my Suzuki Samaria, to some bodywork with that said I have dropped an auto tranny a r700 automatic tranny at a professional to have it rebuilt. By no means am I a mechanic I just enjoy the hobby and usually don't want to pay outrageous labor rates at most garages.
I am using a single car garage with a 60 gallon air compressor and full range of air tools. I had to purchase a few thing for the project including a motor pulling hoist and engine stand (both I'm sure I’ll use in the future) and decided to get a new set of 3/8 sockets so I don’t have to hunt for the right size.

At this point I have pulled the motor/trans and entire sub frame from the bottom of the car and slid it out the front. I have a photo album of photo bucket and here is the link.

I just dropped my block, crank, piston and the crank bearing cap. My number one cylinder had some starching but I will be able to just hone and order stock rings. The connecting rods and crank are being checked so soon we will know. Once I get the verdict of the those 2 pieces the fun part of ordering all the parts begin, so if you know of a good place to get gaskets and such please let me know.

Cool man and good luck!!! My LS engine came in yesterday and looked good. My buddy has the engine out of the car as of today. Wish i wasnt so busy and could take pictures of some of the stuff. My biggest challenge is goin to be the water pump UNINSTALL from the LS due to it bein driven off of one of the cams ;(
Either way, hope your route goes as well and price doesnt bite you in the ***!! Mine either!!

Hope this helps
