Default ABS scan tool

had my abs/dsc light come on today.
knowing its likely a wheel sensor i looked up the price of a code reader which does abs codes.
found one for $109 on amazon same day delivery.
works like a charm and diagnosed my 1165 right rear sensor.
they had cheaper items but i liked this.
they also had the rear sensor for $10.99 next day delivery.

I went with the entry level Launch reader for my Jag and my daughters Rover and it has served me well. I also bought ABS wheel sensors, and one has actually been installed close to 5 years and still doing well. You should do fine with it.

entry level readers do not read or clear abs codes.
for regular codes we now use a small dongle which plugs into the dlc port under the dash and the codes are read via bluetooth on ones phone.
dongles are wifi or bluetooth and cost as low as $5. search ebay etc for ELM327
the app to read the codes is free.
abs code readers were very expensive when i last owned an x type, glad to see they are now a price regular car owners can afford.

I had bad luck with one of those $10 Amazon rear wheel speed sensors. Worked fine for 6 months then died. When that happened I replaced it with the $20 option from RockAuto and haven't had any issues. I wish you better luck than I had.

I've had good results so far with the Foxwell NT150 Jaguar/Land Rover version. You can access the live data from the ABS module which can help pin down a wheel speed fault diagnosis.
