Default AC issue

Hello guys I have a 03 Xtype 2.5 and my AC only cools if it's less then 90 degrees . I live in south Florida so this isn't too often ! It cools at night & on cloudy days as long as the temp isn't above 90 can anyone tell me what this could be? Thanks in advance !

Welcome to the forum Jjscruggs1,

I've moved your question from Intro to X-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

JJ: The AC in our X-Types is a heat pump that pushes heat out of the passenger compartment. The good news is your AC works; the bad news it works inefficiently because it needs a Freon recharged. Living in the south means we get to add Freon every few years since using our AC's daily causes the Freon to slowly leak out.

Try this test..... when your AC can't seem to cool the car, does the air blow warm from the driver's vents and slightly cooler from the passenger vents? If 'yes', that's another indication of low Freon.

Fortunately, it's pretty easy and inexpensive to recharge it yourself. Most auto part stores in hot Florida sell R134a Freon in a can with a fill hose and pressure gauge, including instructions how to recharge your AC, without overfilling it.

This post has a picture of the Freon fill port on our X-Types. The screwdriver points at it: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...35/#post552770

Follow the instructions on the Freon can, wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from Freon spray (never had it happen, but better safe than sorry), and gloves to keep your hands warm (the Freon can will get quite cold).

Good luck.
