adverbs end in LY who got past grade 4 here?
I'm trying so hard to not pick on people, but the level of English on the JAGUAR forum is atrocious. I am an engineer.. I make a million mistakes but I do try to get the very basics right.
These things drive me crazy...
[ul][*]me and I.......... it is not hard to get right[*]good and well. good is adjective (good car, good colour, good job) well is adverb ( I feel well, car drives well, runs well)[*]there is no "s" at the end of anyway.[*]your and you're[*]there, their, and they're[*]and in most cases an adverb ends in ly... quickly, safely, [/ul]
I presume most Jag owners made it past elementary school, and they are over 30 years old. That means that they were taught these things. They learned without the internet.
who started this stuff with "drive safe", "runs good", "me and my friends" ?
Should I just give into the dark side? I know language evolves, but does it have to be driven by illiterate teenagers?
The Americans have some excuse because the TV news (and othermedia)is horrible with English, but what about the UK'ers?

My god Bo.............you need to get a life........everyone knows that when typing on a forum or MSN etc everything gets abbreviated, it's just the way it is.
For example - In your passage alone there are spelling mistakes, but did you take the time to spell check? I don't think so!
"to not pick on people" - not to pick on people.
"elemetary" I assume you meant elementary?
I'm guessing you wouldn't (would not) say in general conversation that "I am an engineer", more likely that I'm an engineer?
I know what you mean by " me and my friends" but honestly, who says "my friends and I?"
If you're ( you are ........lol) looking for perfection, you won't find it here, but thats ok, just go with the flow.
By the way, I'm not picking on you either, I'm just trying to give you a response to your post, so don't get rubbed up the wrong way.

RE: adverbs end in LY who got past grade 4 here?
hey ifI was gonna pick on individuals.. I would. But I decided to just make it non-personal.
slang is slang.. chat short-cuts are fine... I accept all that. typos too...
But it is the the plain errors that are the problems...
like someone said "I got home safe" I am sure that they just dont know it should be safely.
maybe they meant "I just picked up a home version of a bank vault".

Man, I went to sleep last night and everything was nice and peaceful and this was a Jaguar forum. Then I woke up this morning and I came to work(BTW, I arrived here safely) and this has become a CAT fight. I guess it's only appropriate since we all own CATS.
