Default Aftermarket stereo bezel removal

My car has an aftermarket stereo, and the bezel doesn't seem to be installed quite right. Notice in the pic below, the upper left hand side is kind of popped out and sagging. Any attempts to push it back into place, it just falls back to where it was. It's a minor thing, but it bugs the hell out of me. I think I need to remove the whole thing and see what's keeping it from popping into place, could be a stray wire or something. Anyway, is there a way to remove the bezel without breaking anything? Thanks!

From what i've read on this forum. There are heat sink metal fins directly behind the headunit that prevent most models from sitting flush. I've read that a few users have got certain models with smaller dimensions to sit flush. If you do end up taking it apart....car toy's sells a dash kit that is a perfect grey color match to the trim around the HVAC controls above. Guessing if that corner gets to you then the color probably does too. Do a search or look in the FAQ's and you will find a step by step of how to remove. Good luck, let us know.

I found that if I pop off the top part of the hvac control bezel, the small one at the vet top, it reveals two screws that hold the entire hvac unit. Once I remove those bolts, I can tilt the whole unit down, but it doesn't come all the way out. I'm so nervous about breaking something, and I've already scratched the hell out of the ash tray/pocket below the stereo.

I think what I need to do is first remove the ash tray/pocket just below the stereo. Any idea how that comes out? I think it might actually be part of the bezel around the shifter.

Also, why does mine not have a door over the ash tray? Every pic I've ever seen of an x-type interior has a door over the ash tray.
