Do you mean the air conditioning compressor? (You must, as the x-Type has no other compressor - or is your car an XJ with air suspension? That car does have a compressor for the suspension. It REALLY helps if you identify your Jaguar model with every question).
In any case, if it is the AC compressor there will be no sign of a leak in your garage! You *might* be able to see a trace of leakage on the compressor itself. What leaks is a gas, what you might see is traces of the compressor lubricating oil.
The compressor itself can be resealed but it is probably better to replace it if otherwise defective. If it simply is low on the refrigerant charge, it can be regassed (with a dye added to trace the leak).

If the shop tell you the A/C compressor is leak, ask them to show you where is the leak, if it leaked at the hoses fitters, you might able to take them off and resealed them yourself, if it leaked on the compressor body, buy a new one online and replace it yourself too,, just jack the car up, it in passenger side in front of engine, remove the serpentine belt, few bolts on compressor and two hoses, this is easiest job on X-Type.
