I went to Goodyear to get new tires and alignment. What was told to me, I find quite hard to believe. They told me that you can only align toe in-toe out. If you are wearing the outside of the tire, you have caster and camber issues. Why can you not address that issue on an X-Type?

Front or rear? If rear, Thermo has found a fix.

Without the actual alignment readings of toe, camber and caster it's not possible to decide what's causing your outer edge tyre wear. ( Usually it's incorrect toe)

The reason camber and caster are not adjustable at the front is that when the car was assembled it was in spec and if it's maintained and serviced with parts that are to at least OEM spec, it will remain so. Always assuming, of course that nothing's been bent or incorrectly assembled!

Likewise at the rear, the adjustable toe should be sufficient. There have been those who have suffered incorrect camber. Some have gone for the non standard adjustable rear upper control arm whereas others have discovered that non OEM parts have been manufactured to the wrong length and cause havoc! OEM parts have sorted them.

Marvin, like was mentioned, if everything is in proper working order, there should be no need to adjust anything but toe. But, as you are finding out, as parts wear, you may need to adjust more than just toe.

Since you are having issues with the front end caster and camber issues, I need to ask if one wheel is positive and the other wheel is negative with its readings. if this is the case, then your subframe has moved and by getting that square with the car again should fix your issues. If both readings are in the same direction, this is most likely due to worn out struts/strut bearings. You would need to replace the struts and new strut bearings to fix your problem.

On a side note, some members have been able to elongate some of the holes for the strut bearing mount and get the readings that you are having issues with back in tolerance. Just not sure how you feel about doing something like that.
