Default Steering/suspension problems

82 xj6 series 3

I've had two tires go out on me on the freeway in a week. Both the front tires. I looked at the tires and noticed the tread on the inner portion toward inside the car is worn bad but the outside is fine. After chaninging the brake pads i took the calipers off for inspection. After putting back on I get a screeching noise like something is rubbing together when I turn left or right without applying the brakes. Usually happens only wen turning a sharper turn. The tires went out after I changed the pads .The steering wheel as well is shaky when hitting bumps and moves left or right more on its own at times. Does this sound like a I need a alignment and as well have rack an pinion problems? I took the tires and there was the slightest play when shakin left to right. Any ideas where to start? Upper and lower ball joints seem fine

OH BOY.

The steering rack mounting bushes are TOAST, so they need replacing with the upgrade Poly units.

Then get a wheel alignment from someone who understands the Jag front geometry.

I also strongly suspect the lower wishbone INNER bushes are way past their use by date. GENUINE Jag Metalastic bushed only here.

I got mine from.rock auto. They carry all sorts of bits. However..... make sure you pay attention, you need.three. some are sold as singles, some are a set! I no longer use rock auto because.of this! Part number i ordered said 3 only one came. Rack was on bench, called them to send me.rest of.order. they said that my part was supposed to be 3 but because it wasnt i had.to send it back before they would send out correct amount! Poor customer service, but great prices and selection.

As Darren said.

I also use the Parts Suppliers that support this Forum. They would have them, as it is a VERY common upgrade, and been in use a very long time.
