Default All gears disappeared after having been in reverse

I backed my 2005 X Type (Estate 2.0D with manual transmission) into the driveway and when I took it out of reverse suddenly all gears were gone. The stick just moves around but won't engage any gears. I took off the shift boot cover and everything seems to be connected. The clutch seems to be working fine, I have never had any grinding or indication of a transmission problem before this.

Any ideas before I have it towed to the shop?

Thanks in advance.
Ed

Sorry if this has been covered but I searched and couldn't find anything.

Ed, if the linkage is still made up and you can see the lever on the side of the tranny moving, then the problem is internal. That is the nice thing about manual transmissions, very easy to diagnose problems.

Looks like both of the levers are moving on the top of the transmission. I guess it's off to the shop
