Default All you stereo Techies put your thinking cap on!

Got a dalema here...I want satellite radio in my G8...unfortunately, and God only knows the answer to this, but the bone heads at GM didn't add the sat receiver to the radio...AND, to make it worse, there is no adapter to plug it in if you ever decided to "upgrade"

1. I don't like the "over the radio" frequency things, they suck. Period.
2. I can't swap out radios like i did in the Jag because the Hvac controls are on it!

Looking for something that can tie into the radio for more features.....

This isn't my area of expertise...so any help would be appriciated.

For some stupid reason, the base model (6 cyl) has it, but GT G8 doesn't! They figured we didn't need it........trust me, i don't have the ability for sat in the GT G8!! And my Xm radio subscription is good for another year! Not that i'm complaining becasue i can listen to it on my computer! lol

racer, and how much do you want to invest in your XM radio? there's a permanent option, but can be pricey for parts. what's your limit, so I can tell you yes or no.

Paul: Did that a few years back, radio quality still sucks, didn't like it, but thanks!

H20boy: Right now looking to go under 1K. I'll also need a system that can tie in the rear headrest LCD's. What have you in mind?
Bo my man, what up?? 6 liters of raw unadulterated horsepower V-8 will make any man's wee wee stand out like a stallion...[sm=icon_rock.gif]

If you're serious about keeping the XM, here's a good option.

The Garmin GVN 53 has an XM interface. Here's what it looks like (pic from my car). The web site doesn't say much about it or have any screen shots.

You can get the part for a little over $400. you will have to buy an XM adapter too ($ ?), but then all you have to do is get the video feed into the screen, and the audio out to the radio.

My audio installer used a NavTV video switch box (can't buy it online anywhere that I could find) that he had hard wired right into the RGB feeds into my screen. He installed a flip switch in my dash, and when I wanted the Garmin, switch on and screen shows Garmin. the GVN also has a powered speaker out wire, and L & R RCA pre-amp outputs too. To get audio into your existing system, i'm not sure how you would go about it. I ran my RCAs into my signal processor, which puts the sound thru all the speakers, but i only use the NAV, so it works perfectly. Volume for me has to be controlled by the Garmin remote. In order for the GVN to be controlled by the car's deck, you would have to run it into an AUX line-in, which surely it has.

Now, satelite radio is overly-compressed music anyway, in my opinion. Its your project, but with all due respect racer, from an audiophile like me, if I wanted to get satellite radio in my car like you, I would go the FM route too. It's cheaper, easier, and the music is still compressed way too much for my taste to tell any difference. I had XM, then Siruis thru my alpine deck in my Jeep, and both sounded horrible when put into a really good audio system. I'd hate for you to go to so much effort and not be pleased with the result.

anyway, it can be done. good luck buddy!

When am i not under the influence??!

H20boy, thanks for the info, I was actually looking at this system: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vaewScU...px?I=113KOSV1K

Seems to have all the features i want and more...I can wire it into my display like you said using the RGB.
But...it seems like a lot of work to install too....not sure. I really hate installing radios. I would rather pull a leaky old engine with rusted nuts and bolts then to install a radio...lol

Wife is even telling me to go the FM way....damn it Jim!

And no, you can't drink the AlcoholI knew you would ask!

Well i suppose once i add the mods, aka headers, SC, and a few other little goodies....but in the mean time, mine still looks better crossing the finish line in second place.....and after all the gals come up to my car wondering what happened as they feel sorry for me and they proceed to tell me my car still looks better then any old weekend car thats 21 years old........

It's ok, bring the alcohol we're cool......

lol, here is a vid with just nitrous added. No other mods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2WwN...eature=related
