I have an aftermarket head unit and I want to install a rear view camera. To do this you would typically connect into the tail light reverse wiring since you want the camera to activate when the car is in reverse. Of course our tail lights dont have typical wires. Instead, there are these boards that resemble a computers motherboard that are used for connections. I cant even figure out which "line" is getting current...they are all connected.
Anyone know what the deal is with the tail lights? Has anyone hooked up a rear view cam? Any help will be greatly appreciated....Thanks

 

As far as I know , you don't need to hook it up to tail lights . My dad's car has a rear view camera and no matter what gear you select -not only R- you can see what's behind you .

 

^^^^You're right, I can hook up the camera with a switch and leave it "on" all the time, but I want it to turn on when backing up (reverse). Many head units are designed to work with this type of installation. I know I can always just turn it on whenever I'm backing, but I would like for it to do it automatically. It's done by connecting to the reverse light and like I posted before, our tail lights are weird. Just wondered if anyone knows how to single out the positive/negatives on those crazy tail lights! Thanks though...

 

I have a really nice camera in my landrover lr3 that replaces one of the license plate lamps into a camera + a lamp. I can't find a camera that will into a jaguar c-type though. Would be really cool if there was around so no extra holes to screw in the car. anyone got any ideas?

 

I got an aftermarket head unit with rear view. At first I had it always on and having to switch to the camera manually, It got annoying. Much better automatically.

I don't see what's weird about the X Type rear lighting. There's just a number of wires feeding through a single connector to each light unit. The Black wire is to earth/ground and the Green/Black is the supply to the reversing lights.
