I'm in the process of changing the aux belt.
Apparently I'm overlooking something, as I can't get the belt behind the tensioner pulley wheel.
Belt goes (from the aircon pulley, clockwise):
- under the crank pulley and upwards;
- over the tensioner pulley, then inbetween this assembly downwards,
- under the alt pulley, and upwards,
- over an idler pulley;
- under another idler pulley just below the RH engine mount,
- back to the aircon pulley
I'm having troubles with the part marked in red.
Also, why does Haynes suggest to dismount the alternator? Doesn't seem necessary.
It isn't that hard to do, but you need to be well equipped for a simple belt change!
Alt only needs removal if you want to change the tensioner pulley/assembly, in case anyone later on wonders.
Oh, and if your trolley jack slowly lowers on itself like mine, use a wooden beam on 2 jackstands, works a treat for keeping the engine up. Styrofoam under the oil pan, and you're in business.
On the diesel the alternator needs to be removed to allow the pulley tensioner to be moved away from side of block, so belt can be threaded under pulley.
