Squeaking belt or pulley?
03 x-type 2.5
When I am stopped I hear an intermittent squeaking that sounds exactly like worn brakes. However since the car is stopped it can only be a belt or pulley.
I was wondering has anyone run across this problem and if so what is it that needs replacement.
The serpentine belt has only 12,000 miles since replacement and the the car has 40,200 in total.

Squeaking belt or pulley
I had a squeaking belt in my Jag too . I had sprayed WD40 around belt and the pulley .However do this while your engine is off .
Bear in mind, there may be a loose pulley or belt too .I had mine replaced by the dealer both pulley and belt . (My problem was a worn pulley)

As far as I remember it was more than $ 500 . I seem you would feel like
However there will be some differences though , mine is XJ40 and in my case they had to remove a few parts to access the crankcase pulley ,your X Type might be easier to even harder being a newer model
(That was a labor intensive job more than 3 hrs )
There is one more thing to remember, you share some parts with FORD that means if that pulley is compatible with Ford products then price will be lower

No problem
Again , it happened to me on my Jag which turned out to be a big problem , two fans (one is auxiliary ) needed to be replaced . You had to unplug the main relays that kicks on the fans to stop that annoying noise .The car was like running like a tractor rather than a Jag
