Hand brake query

I find it strange that my hand book states - Do not press in the release button when you lift up the hand brake lever. I was always told that lifting up the lever without pressing the button causes ware and tear on the cable.

No, there is a ratchet mechanism on the hand brake, pushing the button in lifts the actuator, has 0 effect on the cable.
