Ive got a Jaguar x-type 2002 with 125k and i'm getting a really bad vibration at around 10-20 mph. It goes away if I go above that or below that and I can't really tell but if I were to guess it seems like it's coming from the rear.

I was thinking it was a bad bearing but i've never had a bearing vibrate the entire car like that. Is this more of a symptom of a bad drive shaft?

 

There are quite a few things that you need to do to start narrowing down the cause. But first, to answer your question. The driveshaft is probably not the problem. With that said let me list a few inspections to do and ask that you get back to us.
1. Stand back away from the rear of the car and take a look at the wheels. Do they look like they tilt in at the top and if so about how far from straight up and down?
2. Lift the tires off the ground one at a time. Grasp them at the top and bottom and try to rock them. The grasp them at each side and again try to rock them. Do they rock and if so how much?
3. While the tire is clear of the ground rotate it by hand. Does it rotate smoothly and not show any visual wobble?
Basically you are looking for a bent upper control arm, a bad wheel bearing and for a bent rim. All common problems for the X-Type.

Ok thanks I will check that stuff this weekend. Although I can tell you right now that the wheels do tilt out at the bottom basically causing the inner thread top wear away much quicker. As for tire wobble I did check that at one point but I only rocked the car by hand from side to side while on all 4 wheels and didn't notice any wobble. I will check again when I lift the car up.

 

the tilted out rear wheels and worn inner tire tread points for sure at lower control arms.
easy and cheap to replace.
the member "Thermo" did a write up about changing them to a different kind from stock as they are adjustable. oem are not adjustable.

Below is a link to the adjustable upper control arm posting. Since you stated the wheels are tilted and abnormal tire wear you have found the bulk of your problem. I would still recommend the other inspections to make sure the control arms haven't caused additional damage.

Unfortunately nothing on this car is easy to replace as every bolt is badly rusted. I tried to change my lower control arms myself maybe 2 years ago, should have been an easy job but I didn't have a torch to cut bolts off. I have to take the car in for even the simplest repairs.
