Arrow Badge position

Howdy,
I have managed to obtain an "Indianapolis" Boot/Trunk Badge... which is missing from my vehicle. This badge is same size, material and style as the standard AWD Badge.

Can any of you Wise Owls tell me where this Badge should be fitted to the Car ?
I know it is subjective... but I wanted to determine where 'Jaguar' Cars would fit the badge and if there some sort of protocol used by Jaguar for their Badge placements ? (See below for attached supplementary details)

All help and information much appreciated.

This ad from Alders in the UK claims to be an Indianapolis model:

Alders Classics - JAGUAR X TYPE

The vehicle carries 'R' badges front and rear but no 'Indianapolis' script badge.

This pic is from another Indianapolis ad:

The ad is discontinued so I can't get a bigger image but it looks to have the badge you describe on the left below the X-Type badge replacing the AWD badge.

LCGI, something like that would probably go on the passenger side, just below the emblems that are there already. If you see where the "AWD" badge is, your new badge would go in the same spot, but on the passenger side.

Jaguar X Type Indianapolis - 14431959 - ExchangeandMart.co.uk#
A rear view in this advert ( #10) shows a badge under X Type

I saw another advert that show a badge in the same position.na

Hi Graham,
Clearly, the first URL is not the Indianapolis Model (no BBS Indianapolis wheels) and that model was not released until 2003 (see previously attached PDF)

I can't distinguish anything in your second example (image) other than what appears to be standard AWD badge under the X-Type Badge.

I think Thermo is closer to what is most likely... with Indy Badge fixed on the right under 2.5 and at same level as the AWD ?

Anyway.... I been mucking around in photoshop to see what things may look like - what do you reckon ?? (see attached pic)

Here's something for you Larry, in continental Europe the "Indianapolis" models were branded as "Le Mans"

I remembered seeing a black Indianapolis here in Switzerland with some chequered-flag badges on the wings, after a bit of searching I came up with some pics of one from Holland;

As you can see, no badge on the boot...but those ones on the wings look nice.

I reckon the Indianapolis badge should go where the AWD one is...

OR put one on either side of the wing, like in these pics just above the indicators...

Alders Classics - JAGUAR X TYPE

I noticed a Growler or Leaper badge on the bonnet ( hood).
Maybe a Leaper mascot was removed ?

Thank you Cambo,
I guess your example - is a custom modification alright.

It would seem redundant for me to now remove the existing AWD Badge,
so, I guess the Indy Badge should go on the right side (under the 2.5)

I also have the "R" badges (pair) and was thinking of putting those
on the side of the car. The spot you mention above the turn-indicators
is already taken (on mine) with a couple of small Leapers

All the Indianapolis cars on the continent have those Le Mans badges, i had a look online & all the pictures of real cars (not general marketing pics) have them.

Seems that it was official from the factory, makes sense since Europeans can relate to Le Mans a lot more than Indianapolis as a premiere motor race.

Not sure what your French is like but here is a sales blurb from France at the time Les séries spéciales Jaguar

Funny that the Le Mans badges aren't in the parts catalog...but then again the Super V8 Portfolio's delivered to Switzerland were badged as Concept Eights so anything is possible.

But for sure, all the Indy's in France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, etc, are Le Mans...

I personally can't stand non-R cars wearing R badges, and i'm not a fan of the leaper badges either, but it's your car, you can do whatever you want...

The R badge became pertinent... because of the BBS Indianapolis wheels applied to this model.

For the life of me, I cannot relate to a LeMans connection... I mean, was the X-Type ever entered or raced in that event ??
In that theres no official Le Mans Badge available - suggests the marque is nebulous or used for local marketing.

Yep, I muddle through the French OK..... seems (in translation) the Le Mans variation was for Swiss and German Markets only
and not all of Europe as you suggested.

See attached...?

Le Mans' were obviously available in other countries too, Holland for example.

Anyway....there are official brochures from Jaguar available in French, German & Italian for the Le Mans edition. I've emailed a guy who might have copies of them, if I can get them they'll be on the way to you.

I'm just trying to give you more information about your car...

Some more links;

Le Mans currently for sale in Switzerland JAGUAR X-Type 3.0 Le Mans, Occasion, Benzin, 189'970 km,CHF 6'200 - AutoScout24
Le Mans currently for sale in Estonia Jaguar X-Type le Mans 3.0 v6 169kW - auto24.ee
Source of those pics I posted Le Mans edition 2004 Black X-Type 3.0 V6
Press release in Dutch for the Le Mans Jaguar X-Type Le Mans | Autonieuws - AutoWeek.nl
Forum post from a Dutch Le Mans owner Wouter82: Jaguar X-Type 2.5 Le Mans (2003) | een jaar in bezit - AutoWeek.nl

There's plenty more info out there if you look.

Funny that the Estonian one doesn't have the badges on the wings, but has a Le Mans badge where the AWD badge would usually go (where the Indianapolis badge would go)

But it's plain to see that the Le Mans model is identical to the Indianapolis (paint, seats, wheels), and that French website clearly states Indianpolis for UK, and Le Mans for France & Switzerland....

Last comment from me, you've got a rare limited edition car, wouldn't you want to keep it original or at least in a factory sort of state. R badges? Seriously? R-models have Superchargers...

If I can get the brochures i'll let you know.

Cambo,
I really do appreciate your efforts here..... please do not take offence if my responses appear to be tardy or ungrateful.

It is an interesting discussion and I very much welcome all your input.

Have a great weekend.

No worries Larry, did you get my email with the bloke in France's details?

He has original printed brochures for the Indianapolis (in English) and also the Le Mans (in French, German & Italian). Since they are for sale, & i have no need for them, up to you if you want to buy them direct from him.

If I come across and more links or pictures I'll post them here.

Hello.
New owner, old car, old thread.
I thought I was getting a nice 3 litre manual. Turns out it was a teeny bit more special than I imagined.

Anyway, photo of badge in position:-

^ That makes sense. Anywhere else seems too badgey. I usually like to remove all badges myself, so this thread is somewhat painful for me.

Thanks to all who have posted here since my last (1st!) message.
Thanks for the promo blurb Lcgi.
Agreed - it could be a nice "sleeper" Smith000. See next.
Agreed - a couple of the badges are really a bit garish exexpat.
I'd like to remove the lot from the rear and maybe reposition the "Indianapolis" badge somewhere more suited to it's nature? (Frankly, as it seems to relate solely to the model of wheels fitted it's a bit - um - redundant as mine came with brand new clone near-lookalike wheels. An expert would know from 25 feet away or more.)

Does anyone have 1st hand experience of de-badging the rear without paint damage?

TIA Ray_GTI-R

PS:- on a more practical theme and nothing to do with the thread topic I just completed my 1st for-purpose 172-mile round trip journey.
The dragon-in-law approved.

I've debadged mine. The badges are fitted with double-sided tape, so I used a fishing line to gently "saw" between the badge and the body. I've heard that dental floss is also suitable. It took much longer to remove the glue residue though, likely the fluids I used were not "optimal". Perhaps some kind of tar/insect removing car cleaning product? Just don't use anything too strong, even if it seems tempting after being at it for a while

Just remember, the paint shade may be slightly different underneath the badge due to having been covered from sunlight and the elements. Mine wasn't, even though the car had been in the sunny South France for 11 years before I took off the badges, but then again my paint is a pretty light colour.
