Default Bang Whoosh where's my acceleration?

Mine's a 2008 X type Diesel 2.0 litre Saloon 70K miles.
last night as I was overtaking another car there was a loud bang from the front and I lost acceleration.
When I put my foot down there is a loud Whoosh sound but little acceleration. If I keep my foot down, the sound is not continuous but repeats every couple of seconds while the car gradually picks up speed.

The engine is still running smoothly most of the time but did stutter a couple of times. I did not notice any smoke.

Should I assume that something terminal has happened to the turbo or is it possible that its no more than a lost circlip or split hose?

Any advice would be welcome

If it was loud enough to hear from inside the car, you should have little trouble finding it once you get under the hood.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Jerry, based on what you are describing, it is sounding like one of the rubber tubes in the intake gave up the ghost and you are now running on a naturally aspirated diesel engine which will result in a lot of lost power. Like was mentioned, do a little bit of looking around. From what you describe, finding the issue should be pretty easy. As for what the repair is, that will depend on what failed.

Suggest you look under the EGR valve first as it sounds like the hose directly under has gone..it might look ok until you closely examine it, might be just a split or one of the jubilee clips has rusted away.........

If you have to replace it, go for the silicone type and use stainless steel jubilees
