Default Battery light comes on but goes off when restarted.

I love my 04 X-type and it has been a great car. I do however have a nagging issue and lately it has become a problem.
For months, I have had the issue with the temp sensor. Every blue moon the dash reads overheat but the car is not overheating. once restarted, everything reads fine. Now the battery light comes on every once and a while and goes off when restarted. Now while driving the car, the a/c will control panel will lose power and turn off for a few seconds and then come back on. At the same time, all of the lights on the dash light up and then turn back off. The car doesn't cut off but sometimes the red powertrain light comes on and the car losses power until it is restarted. Please Help

I had the same battery light problem. Then I had starting problems. Replaced the battery and all was good in the world.
Good luck.

Give your serpentine belt and tensioner a quick look, too. Might be slipping when she gets warm.

Probably just the battery, though!

Every x-type has this issue during it's lifetime. More often than not, it's the battery cables that are bad. There is a ground point under the battery tray where several ground cables connect. Check that for corrosion and clean it well. Also check the positive cable on both ends (the battery side and under the fuse box) If it looks the least bit bad, replace it. Mine did the same thing. I cleaned the under battery ground and changed the positive lead and the light went off and stayed off.

Do that first before spending any real money on an alternator or battery. Chances are good the problem will be fixed.
