My battery light just came on and I read that a common problem for the battery light is the battery cables but was wondering where I should start testing and what should the voltage values be throughout the charging system. The car had the alternator changed about a year ago but I am also having the third brake light intermittently coming on and off. I am not sure if these two problems are related but any help would be greatly appreciated

 

any suggestions?
