Best place for a service?
Hi guys,
Having just purchased my '05 Xtype 2.0d I would like to give it a good service.
Where is best to take it, Jag dealer, Ford dealer or just a regular garage? I'm in the IOM at the moment and dont think they have a jag dealer.
I'm not to fussed about the whole FSH thing as its a car that cost me around 3K.
Any thoughts?

My son has fairly recently bought a Jag X type 2.0d 56 plate..
Just for fun we checked with Jaguar and for a basic oil & filter change you'll be looking at around £120
If you throw in the air filter, pollen filter & fuel filter plus a walk round check, you can expect to be around £300 worse off I'm sure, maybe a little less depending on where you go.
You could always elect to do the oil / filter change yourself or get National Tyres or similar to do it using the correct oil for around £40.
Doing the air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter yourself ( all very easy and fairly basic ) means you 'll be around £25 - 30 in parts.
Do a walk round, check all your lights 7 get someone to help you with checking the brake lights etc, check your tyres ( National can do that for you, probably have a quick look at your brakes etc for you as well, while you're in for the oil change free of charge )
You'll be around £220 better off and you can be sure its all done.
You don't say what mileage you're at?
Here's the post with the service shcedule sheet for you.......Its mostly checks that you're paying for!

I learned a long time ago. If you have a car thats out of warranty find a local 'guy'. I have a great Jag guy here in Central Florida. Charges $50 for an oil and filter change. And has a small shop where he works on old Jags all day.
Avoid dealers unless you win the lottery and are trading the X in for an XK!

longstebe, your owners manual should have a list of what is coming up due at 100K miles. This will give you some time to get this stuff done so it doesn't kill the finances all in 1 month.
Since you are just getting the car, if you have not been given a firm date of when some of the following was done, assume it is due:
-tranny fluid change
-rear differential fluid change
-transfer case fluid change (assuming you have the AWD version) THIS IS A MUST!!!!! See the forums for hints on this as it is not quite a straight forward thing and you may find that some shops will simply tell you that they can't do that.
-engine coolant changeout
-PCV Valve replacement
-IMT O-ring replacement
-brake inspection and fluid change out
Yes, this will be a decent bill if you pay someone to do it for you. Things like the PCV valve replacement, you can do yourself. It takes all of 10 minutes to do and you are simply disconnecting a hose, twisting a part out of the valve cover, putting a new one in, sliding the hose back on. Very easy. Even something like the brake fluid change out is easy to do and can save you some decent money.
If you need some helpful pointers, let us know. I wish you lived closer to me. I would tell you to come on over and we could get most of this cranked out in an afternoon.
