Default Black smoke under load

Hi peeps, I am new here

I got my Jaguar X-Type X400 2l Diesel back in May 2015. Only had one problem since owning it, the Turbo Actuator. Anyways, got that sorted, but a few months down the line and I now have another problem.

Under load, I get a big black puff of smoke from the exhaust when the turbo kicks in. It sounds like the turbo is sucking a lot of air. I have checked the air filter, that seems to be fine, I have had a look around at the hoses, they seem fine.

When the turbo kicks in it does its job, I get up to speed as normal, just the sucking noise and black smoke. I have also noticed that the fuel consumption has gone down.

Any help would be appreciated

Many thanks

Stuart :-)

99% certain to be a split in the Intercooler hose. i.e. hose from bottom of intercooler to EGR valve, front right of engine.

If you can't see/feel a split in it, take it off and check it again.

Also, did a quick YouTube search and found a video on how to replace it also :-)

Very happy chappy your a star thank you.

Do you think a spot of gaffer tape would do it until the weekend when I can get a replacement?

Glad you found it. Yes Gaffer tape should make a reasonable temporary fix. Can't do any harm anyway.
