Default Boot Open / Locking Issue

OK, so I've got the "Boot Open" message on the dash, which my research here leads me to believe that either the boot wire bundle or the boot lock sensor are bad. I've put that on my "fix list", but in the mean time, I can't lock the doors. The fob is non-responsive, and turning the key to lock results in nothing.

Is there a fuse I can pull for now which will disable the boot lock check, so I can lock the doors until I can replace what's broken?

There's no fuse removal that will help. The only way is to duplicate the action of the Ajar Switch, by going to the General Electronic Module in the front of the righthand footwell. It has five different colored connectors. Then, in the Grey one, on the module's lefthand side, find the Brown wire (next to a White wire) on the bottom row of the plug. Tap a wire into that and connect it to a good ground. That will tell the GEM the boot is not ajar.

Astromorg, that worked perfectly. Thank you so much! I was a bit terrified to go hacking about in the wires, and wasn't 100% sure that the bolt in the floorboard was a safe ground, but it immediately deactivated the sensor, and now the doors will lock. Much appreciated.

Argh. I spoke too soon. It worked once, and then went back to boot open, despite the bypass still being in place. Perhaps the bolt immediately adjacent isn't actually grounded to the body?

Mmm! All I can suggest is that you re-check both ends of the temporary wire are properly connected electrically. The earth point should be OK, but try another if you're uncertain. The connection to the brown wire might not be as good as you thought? Depends on what you've used; twisted together is unreliable, a proper tap connector could need re-fixing but a soldered connection is a bit OTT for your temporary needs!

Then I'll double back through and check again. Thanks for your patience with the n00bs.
