Default brake shift interlock clicking

My brake shift interlock is clicking now every time I release the brakes during normal driving. I assume something is worn out - on my Mercedes this issue was attributed to a worn rubber stopper/bushing on the mechanism.

Wondering if the same could be said for the X-Type and, if so, is it replaceable?

We would replace the whole shifter assembly when under warranty. I don't know if there is a fix for it that would not require changing the whole shifter.

How difficult a job is that? And how much does an assembly typically go for?

It's not affecting operation; it's just annoying to hear.
