Default Broken hood latch

It seems the passenger side hood latch is broke on my 2004. When I close the hood, the latch doesn't engage at all.

Is this common? Is the problem with the latch mechanism or the cable? And how difficult is it to fix this? I'm not really able to get my hand underneath and its difficult to even see anything underneath.

The drivers side is okay, but it makes me nervous especially on the highway because the hood is flopping around on that front passenger side corner.

Thanks!

Hi Old punk,

I hope this helps, if you cant lubricate the jaw so the claw is moveable then it will need replaced.

This is rather common on X Types (and many others) on vehicles which suffer cold/wet/ice/snow and roadsalt (Scotland sadly!!!)
sorry I wasnt able to source a jagforum link?

Regards, Stu GOOD LUCK
