Default Bulb failure warning

Please some one explain.
I was under the impression that my xtype would have bulb failure warning. It appears it does not! which frankly amazes me.
I recently discovered I have a rear light out and no indication on the dash.
I THEN WENT ALL THROUGH THE VEHICLE HANDBOOK and discovered no mention of bulb failure indication.
OK IT DOES NOT HAVE THIS , why then do all the towbar suppliers insist that a bypass relay be used on towbar electrics?
I have just fitted one!
Beats me.

DUNKS, the relay may not be for the bulb failure feature (which our cars do not have as you have found out). What instead it is for is to not overload the turn signal function which would then lead to a legal issue as the flashing rate is a function of the current the bulbs pull. So, by adding a trailer, you would be pulling more current which will cause the flash rate to speed up and potentially exceed the legal limit (atleast here in the US, the flash rate must be between 80 and 120 flashes a minute).

Thanks Themo "again" I never thought of that. Does not make any difference to anything I have done. I am truly amazed that the X type does not have this feature. I fear that as I explore my car I feel I should have kept my Rover 75 con se. A much better vehicle in many respects. I have recently had cause to access the glove box fuses what a nasty nightmare to get at.
