A/C question won't take enough freon
Used 2006 X-type bought used a few months ago so no service history. Would only blow cold A/C out of the passenger vent but not consistently cold. I had the system evacuated and pulled 28 pounds of vacuum which it held no problem.
When i started her up she took about 22 oz of the 28 or so ounces of freon it calls for and will not take anymore. On the highway it drops the temperature about 35 degrees, but htat will jump up to 70 now and then in traffic. The coolant temp gauge whether on highway or idling in driveway is never more than a hair either side of the middle gauge mark. Took it for a good highway drive brought it back and on a 92 degree day it had about 240 on the high side and 26 on the low. Tried again to add a little as a gas and low side pressure spike to about 40 but only took about an ounce or two.
I am going to evacuate the system and check and see if the compressor spring/valve swap has been done. Not knowing if it has been done correctly before. I realize the order is important but does the spring and valve have a correct orientation? Also while in there anything else I should clean or replace. like an orifice, receiver driver or ?? Where i am saving on labor i do not mind putting more parts in.
Thanks,
Ron
