Can anyone tell me what this small grill in the dash is for?

see below - what is the small horizontal grid in the dash for?
(ps I’m thinking of adding a double din stereo, and am wondering if it is a pre installed microphone… or if I have to install a mic from the stereo?)

I think the mike is in the center roof console.

Norri is correct. The mic for handsfree is on the headliner, drivers side, right next to the sunglass storage thingy on the roof console. The mic is the plastic thingy that sits next to the actual console.
