can i use this tire size
iownme, the size difference between the two is fairly insignificant. You should be fine with that size tire. Just keep in mind that your speedo will be off by 3.3%. So, when it is indicating 60MPH, you will actually be travelling 62 mph. Just something to keep in mind.
I am running 225/45R16's on my car right now. No issues with those.

They will rub.
I am assuming your Sport currently has 225/45/17 tires. The rolling radius is 199.27 cm.
The 205/50/17 that you are considering has a rolling radius of 206.50 cm. That is a difference of 7.23 cm or about 2.75 inches.
They are also narrower and will handle quite differently.

Who knows what the persons reason for selling was...I have no problem with slightly used tires for a fraction of the retail price...same with the purchase of my used car and my used audiophile quality stereo...lol....for me, used is a good way to go
