Ok Guys need to pick your brains,


I have a newer 04 with the updates. I cant figure it out. It drives fine then it cuts out and shuts off. Sometimes it will restart and other times it wont. I check the codes and there is none. Then I would get a random misfire or a fuel sending unit failure. I drained the tank, changed the fuel filter. Put in new gas. Then its fine for 40 or 50 miles. Then it dies out again. New battery checked some of the grounds. All ok. Any help is welcome.

Without a code, it sure sounds like a fuel pump.

 

Dr, when the car won't start, does the motor crank over or does it not even seem like the starter is engaging? I ask this as it is possible you are loosing power to the ECM and that is causing the signals to the fuel pump, coils, and fuel injectors to stop which will then cause the motor to seem like it was turned off.

I would also say to check the fuel rail pressure when the engine won't start to make sure that the fuel rail is coming up to 40-50 psi like it should. That would rule out the fuel pump/fuel issue. Then you are down to either a timing issue (those don't come and go) or an air issue (which you should be getting a code for). But, like I mentioned, if the ECM is loosing power, that would result in the no code issue.
