Default uphill acceleration

Hi guys, was just wondering if anyone could help. Noticed when driving uphill ill be holding the pedal to keep current mph at 35 roughly 2000 rpms and all of a sudden it shoots up to 3000 - 3500 rpms and starts accelerating. Anyone knows whats going on. Thanx in advance! Automatic trans

ECM senses that load the engine is getting higher and by down shifting it reduces load on the engine so you go up the hill more easily and if load should suddenly get even higher you won't run out of power.

Engine is pulling against the gradient , transmission drops down a cog to cope & stop engine labouring .
