Gerry,
Jaguar carry designs over across the model ranges and the X-Type could be similar to the X300 / X308 / XK8 arm rests. If so, this video may help you dismantle it to get to the hinge. The video is aimed at repairing the cup holder but includes dismantling the arm rest:
The hinge on the other models looks like a standard butt hinge:
If X-Type is the same construction, you've got to be able to get one the right size at a hardware store.

Hinge
I wish it were a std type hinge but this one has 3 flanges, I'll try and get a photo up. The center consul on the X Type has 2 hinged lids, one on top of the other and one 3 flanged hinge. If I can't locate one I'LL take it apart and cobble up half of a std hinge to fit. Just looking for the easy way out.

It looks like the hinge pin is the part arrowed in red and the butt of the hinge has sheared at the point arrowed in blue:
If so, the broken butt has to be a piece of flat plate rolled at the top to take the hinge pin. A machine shop should be able to make a replacement a whole lot cheaper than sourcing even a used arm rest.

Gerry,
With your sheet metal background, you may have hit on a market opportunity if these hinges are a regular failure.
The arrows aren't a forum function. For speed, I just take a screen shot then size it and apply the arrows from 'shapes' (circled in red below) in Windows Paint:
For something more complicated with text boxes or call outs, I'd use Photoshop.
