Default Changing ATF

HELLO ALL! I decided to change my ATF on 02 2.5… went to transmission shop just to hear uneducated redneck telling me he doesn't know what and when… called the dealer and they said: "SEALED FOR LIFE!!!?? We are not going to change it!" I am thinking: How long is life?!?! 80-90K?
Anyway, I saw a post https://www.jaguarforums.com/m_5219/tm.htm and this is my bible to go by. I am going to drain and fill, drain and fill…. But, before I start there are a few questions I need to clear: 1. Dealer said that Mercon V ATF will not work and will damage my trany. Does anyone know if this oil is up to par? Or should I use something else? 2. Can't find my fill hole. Please take a look at the picture and see if this is it? Or is iteven there?

Thanks in advance!!!

I don't know about where the hole is, but all I know is that "life" is not over 100K miles. I strongly suggest doing the change and ask the dealer what is the OEM oil they use on the tranny and use that. That oil is good for about another 75K miles or 5 years!

Thanks

I called the dealer, but they told me they use Europinian oil for $35 a litter... i asked them if there is a substitude and he said no! I've read that Mercon V ATF is a substitute, but I am not sure about that. Dealer said it's not!
Does anyone know?

Don't trust the dealer! They're just trying to get you to buy $35 bucks per quart of oil! Mercon V is fine, just steer away from Synthetic Tranny Fluid!

Not on the Jag, but I did on the G20 my mom had before. It's been like 15k miles and no problems so far. Now it's my uncles car so we would know if something went wrong! The dealer also said that we could only use the $25 quarts that they had!

Does G20 have the same transmission as X-type?

Certainly not, the G20 used a Nissan Primera Transmission. Tranny Fluid is like Engine Oil, as long as you have the right viscosity and everything, you should be fine. Mercon V is a good match for the tranny, I wouldn't be too scared, as long as it isn't synthetic!

What is reccomended for the X-Type Auto Trans is "Mobil ATF 320".

http://www.technomag.ch/fileadmin/us...ilATF320_d.pdf

I wouldnt use anything but that. I've seen new valve bodies go in the dump due to incorrect fluid.

Fill Hole is towards the front of the tranny, just above the valve body. If you look down in between the battery and the air box,
you'll see a rubber cover for the fill hole. You'll have to remove the battery for easier access. If you still cant find it, I can provide a pic.

Depending on shipping, i can provide you with the fluid you need for around $40-$50

That is what they reccomend. Jatco is the transmission manufacturer, they also use/reccomend Mobil 320

Your year S-Tpe uses a different (more common fluid). You have a Ford tranny.

Hey watch it there bigdreams! Isn't anything wrong with a Ford! I sold my 94 f150 for 2500 to a guy that couldn't even shut the door! The truck had 220,000 and that was three years ago! I saw it last spring while working, if I wasn't in my work truck I would have tracked him down but a class B boom truck is a little big and a little hard to follow someone!

No sweat, I'm just messing around! My dad had a 90 Ford Ranger, and it was by far the most reliable car we've ever had! Unfortunately it suuffered a bad accident!

Dude I'll post a link under this for my truck! This thing was in 4 accidents. Two trees, a deer and a dog! The last tree did the truck in as far as it looking brand new! My dad was going up a hill on a dirt road to a job and the guy in front got to the top of the hill and stopped! You know how gravity works from there! He slammed the rear into the tree and ended up buying it back from the insurance company for like 3500 or 4500 just after the insurance paid the 16k left owed to ford! That happened in like 96 or 97! The deer he hit sucked because that was the second one and my dad decided to not have the dealer repaint the front grill and front bumper to match the paint! Before the deer the whole truck was painted no chrome no nothing. The truck came stock with some red leather and wood with a roll pan in the rear and ground effects all the way around (nothing special though) Came with the 8.5" wide mangel wheels but I wanted the harley 20's on it as the first pic show what it would look like! Congrats! You've completed another one of my novels!
