Default Climate Control Question - X-Type Newbie

I'm glad I found this forum

I just bought an 02 X-Type 2 days ago and I love it! However, I'm having an issue with the climate control.

It blows cold for a few minutes, then blows hot air, then it blows cold for a few minutes, then hot air. If i'm not mistaken or crazy, it only does this during the day when it's really hot outside.

Any help here?

Thanks.

If you bought it from a dealer get them to regas the aircon system normally last 3-5 years before they sometimes need refilling and/or you might have a leak in the aircon pipes somewhere.Get them to check for leaks and fix the problem too.
The climate should blow ice cold when set to LO which automatically puts the recirc on.

I hope it's not a leak, as that would really suck and probably cost me quite a few pennies. It's as if it hits a pocket of nothing and I get hardly any cool air, then it'll blow cold just fine, and then stop, then start again.

Does the compressor shut on and off, or is it engaged all the time with the a/c on?

Sounds like you you may be losing vacuum to the air flap door that seperates the cold from the heat.
Or...
Is the outside air temp guage working properly? Sometimes when that goes bad, it throughs the climate controls out of whack too...

Hey spartan x I've noticed mine has been doing it as well...when I bought mine there was a couple of days last september that I needed the a/c and it blew cold as could be...before I bought mine there was a jag I test drove whose air didn't even work at all...The a/c is running so long as the light to the right says a/c is on. If you have recirculating on as well as the a/c button and the temp as low as possible the blower blows really hard. Does your get really cold still or no? Mine will get cold and than it seems like it stops working and than before I know it I have to turn the air down because its blowing cold...WTF???

As Buck says.........you bpught it a few days ago........take it back to the dealer........" It should be their problem.......not yours" and shouldn't cost you a penny!

The flaps are operated by electrical motors.

X-types had/have a problem with the blend door getting stuck.

The recirc light automatically comes on when the unit is set to itscoldest ie LO with the aircon depressed so you dont need to press it as it comes on by itself when set to LO.

You check the fuse? If the fuse is good that means you may have lost some pressure and the safety valve will not let the compressor engage...or..you have a blockage due to the compressor blowing up internally ;-)

First 3 fuses are on left side of passenger bulkhead:
check 8, 37, 36, 23, 99, 80, and 75

In the engine compartment (left side) check fuse number 6, (30amps)

There is also a Air conditioning relay, check that as well....it will be in the same box as # 6 fuse. Check the writing on top of lid....should say AC relay

not sure if it relevant but doesn't the ac compressor shut off when ambient or engine temp reaches a certain level? I know had an issue once in heavy traffic when it was pretty hot outside, I switched the ac on & it just did not work, but has never been an issue since.
