Default Cocked Steering Wheel

I just had the 40K mile service done on my X-Type and also got two new tires with alignment. The car rides very nicely...with the exception of slight vibrations possibly slightly bent wheels. However, I noticed that I need to keep the steering wheel turned about 15 degrees to the left in order to keep the car straight. If I center the steering wheel, the car will veer to the right by about 3 to 5 degrees.

Anyone know if this would be an easy fix to true the steering?

Thanks!

Having 2 new tyres and the alignment done is where your issue lies.

Usually when they do this, they have an impliment that keeps the steering wheel centred whilst they do their work ( obviously they haven't done this )
So when they've re aligned your steering the steering wheel has moved with it!

If it were me, I'd simply take it back and ask that they re align centering the steering wheel as they should have done in the first place.

Let us know how you get on

Yeah; kinda what I was thunking but was giving'em the benefit of the doubt. I'm heading back there probably Saturday to have them re-align the steering.

Wish me luck!

Best of luck.

Just a thought, but when you let go the steering wheel, does the car remain straight and true?

If not, then the alignment would again be suspect.

Thanks, Translator!

Already thought of that and tested it; the car went straight.

Took it back yesterday, and they aligned the steering. It's still not exact but is tolerable. It only needs to be cocked about 3-5 degrees now which is a lot better than what it was. Holding the steering wheel at center will make the car veer to the right by about 1-2 degrees. I guess it can't be perfect.
