Code 1638 after 8 mile drive

Code 1638 after 8 mile drive
Took new car out for a spin, was ok noticed a stutter around 2500 revs
Its an auto, kickdown now works well after cleaning MAP
came back put my hand held code reader and code 1638 was up, cleared it off again.
Any ideas anyone what causes this and is there a pointer as to where to fix, and would this cause the slight stuttering at low revs
Also the check engine light does not work but cars runs ok and is not in limp mode
