Default Codes on possible future purchase

I went to look at a 2002 X-type today, 3.0L, auto trans. 88,000 miles, not used much in last 5 years, elderly driver.
I put my Foxwell code reader on it and got the following code that returns after being cleared, P1780.
I noticed that the gear indicators on the J gate illuminated in red as I went from P, R, N, D, but no lights were visible for 4, 3, 2 and I think the lights then did not come back on as I went D, N, R, P.
A message about transmission fault came up. Car was parked, engine off. I turned key off, and then back to 2 and the message was gone.
Car drove fine, but I did not try using 4, 3, 2.

Any thoughts?
Is it cable adjustment, or micro switches, a new J gate?
Not a fault in the transmission itself?

I also saw, under the powertrain module, B0300 (network management expulsion) and B1316 (Boot/trunk latch power close - is this the right module to be reporting this error, or suspicion that the Foxwell should be reporting P1316?) . I did not dare clear those as it might impact getting a smog test done here in CA as required for all sales.

cooldood, looking at the OBD summary tables I have, the problem is the D-4 (drive to 4th gear) switch in the J-Gate. It could be something as simple as adjusting the cable. Could be a new J-Gate. Hard to say without further diagnosis.

For better or worse, I bought the car.
Freed off the CD magazine, should make the last owner happy when I return their CDs, and popped out the ashtray unit to reset the locking mechanism.
Ordered thumb tacks for the headlining, a used trunk seal and a new key fob.

Will explore the J gate shortly, after the battery gets a full charge. For now, I will just avoid 2,3,4.

Larry, with a little bit of work, you can remove the headliner yourself and an upholstery shop should be able to do a new fabric for you for around $200. The big thing is not getting too crazy in rolling the headliner when pulling it in and out. You can do it without removing the windshield. Just have to lay the front seats all the way back and then you slide the back of the headliner under the head rest of the front seats and then roll the headliner to on top of the seat. From there, you can squeeze it out the rear door.
