Common rear end replacement items.
Got all new brakes and tires ready to go so I wanted to ask if there are any parts in the rear suspension that are cheap and not to involved I can knock out in the process.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Innzane, I would do a quick check of the upper control arm and also the lower/forward arm for the rear. Both of these are items that require periodic replacement. If you are in there, you can get these done with minimal additional time. The upper arms can be had for around $100 for a set if you go with the adjustables like I have posted on line about. The lower/forward ones are only available through the dealership at about $100 each to the best of my knowledge. There are some dealerships on ebay that sell the arms at that price.
If you need a helping hand, let me know. I am south of you in California, MD. I have all the tools you would need to handle any job on the X-Type.

I would also add that you could replace the sway bar (anti-roll bar) bushes. I would go with poly (available on fleabay) and you'll never have to do them again. Apparently you should attach them with Locktite 454 to stop any squeaking.
I had a bad lower arm, so replaced both of those. While in there I also did the sway bar links and bushings and rear shocks (Bilsteins). Bought all the parts from Rock Auto. The bolts holding the control arms and shocks are in there very tight; you'll need a breaker bar.

Thx for the input. Guess there is a bit back there, 4 arms, sway bar bushings, shocks. Sounding like a good mission for another weekend.
Do the arms come with the inserts or bushings typically? I saw they ran $35-$60 a piece, I assume they were the arm bushings.
And are any of those parts to do with the part that holds the hub/cv assembly to the car?
I know the upper arm connects to it, not sure about the lower arm location, but neither of them really are the structural part correct? Is it called an A frame like in older cars, or?

innzane, the CV hub is a completely separate part. Unless you have an ABS light on or it is making a bad noise, I would say to just leave it be.
All the arms bolt to either the frame of the car or to the spindle on that corner of the car. Kinda like the CV hub bolts to the spindle too.

Kool, I do have the ABS lights, hope it is a sensor.
It is sporadic so I do not think the ring is wrong, I bought a used hub, I assume it is the correct side but who knows.

innzane, if you are getting periodic ABS lights and you know it is coming from the rear (ie, C1165 and/or C1175 codes), then this would be a good time to do the CV axle. You can pull the arms and then get the spindle assembly off too so things are wide open to allow easy access.
I am not sure which wheel it is, do not think my cheapo code reader reads that deep.
Will a right rear spindle/bearing combo fit the left side? Wondering since i replaced one, but a good bit before the lights, so I do not think the ring is reversed if even possible.
I am gonna pull the sensors and check them, maybe I got dirt, grease, bearing fodder near it during my fix. Bearing was gone, had 3" play in the wheel
