Default Component Speakers Installation Complete!

It wasn't that bad. I simply used 5/8" MDF and cuttwo rings that I could mount the speakers to. I then made a small notch in the back to allow the wires to come through from the front of the door (so it wouldn't ever interfere with the window rolling down or up). I mounted the tweeters on the upper corners of the door. They are perfectly aimed and sound great!

Here are pictures of the completed install. Sounds Amazing!!

Equipment: Lanzar Optidrive Alum. Cone Diecast Component 6.5 Speakers with 1" Silk tweeters. Factory powered.

I secured the crossover by using 3M tape. It isn't moving at all and is VERY secure. I didn't want to screw it into the inner door panel and there was no room to mount it on the door itself.

I was going to flush mount them in the door BUT there is litteraly NO room behind the panel. The few places I could have put it would have look UGLY.

I think I went the best route possible. They look and sound good.

Like the setup cobra. What did you do to make the speakers fit with the door panel going over the top of them since you spaced them out like that? By the way how bad was it putting the tweeter up in that lovely corner, I know thats where I'd have put them for look and accoustical reasons?

There is plenty of room to space them like I did. The factory speakers are ona OEM bracket that actually sticks out a good inch more. I used the spacer to ensure that the speakers would clear and that when the window is down it wouldn't caust any problems with snagging or vibration.

There is PLENTY of room where I mounted them and they don't budge after securing them with the adhesive.

Yes, but it is on the panel NOT the door. You have to pull back the insulation and you will see the spot. Also, you have to attach it with adhesive because using screws would go through into the front of the panel (which would suck)

those tweeters do look fine where they are; i wonder if it's a job anyone can do, or would i need more experience
with these things before attempting to try the same. good job, ironcobra.

Hey cobra do the crossovers heat up or not? Nice job on the finish product and the picture taking. Should of seen when I changed the clutch on my crotch rocket...I took about 300 pictures with my digital rebel camera!

No they don't heat up at all. There isn't enough power in the factory HU to cause them to overheat.

So you're saying they'd heat up if I had an aftermarket unit on there? Just curious as I like what you've done!

no, I don't think you'll have any problems with heat. Crossovers generally don't get too hot. You won't have anything to worry about.

Well cobra I've ordered these speakers online and they should be here by next week! They are Phoenix Gold ZR 6.5 component speakers. They are like 75w rms, only 90db but isn't too bad, and are 4 ohm. They aren't awesome quality I don't think but we only paid $11.50 per set. My wife's dad and I are teaming up to sell stuff at the flea market and we bought all 12 sets that they had left but we don't have confirmation they had them or they were sent. Well see they should arrive this week...
