Either way should be fine Racer! If you check the size of the speaker though you can't go wrong!

hey Cobra,
I want to replace the subwoofer in the factory Jag rear deck housing. Not really good with this speaker crap stuff..anyway, so do i measure the hole in the deck lid, or the speaker I'm pulling out to get the replacement size speaker ?

I believe that you have a single 6x9" speaker in the back deck. That is what I have been told by many sources but could be wrong. The most exact way to check would be to remove the speaker and take it to CC or Best Buy and as them. Be careful how you replace it though. Most factory speakers are low power and do not provide much movement. Replacing the speaker with something larger or more powerful can uncover rattles you didn't know existed.

Cool...good info, thanks for the advice....I think i'm just gonna take it all out and put it up on e-bay....I already have a nice sub (infinity) that i mounted in the trunk last year. I wanted the factory sub to compliment my aftermarket system......but it just might be too much bass for me...

Hey cobra right after I posted on here about those speakers we got notification that our order was placed and missing half of the stuff we ordered because they didn't have it! As I said we bought 12 pairs of them (which they showed that was their quantity left) well they didn't have any and so now I won't be getting them! I also ordered a 1000w 2 ch amp from american pro which I've never heard of but they are all over online. My buddy works at cc and he bought 2 of there better 12's, a 6x9 set and a 6.5 component speaker set from polk. He paid 300 dollars for all of it the cost was over 700 msrp. I might check his stuff out and get a set of the components that cost 300 and he paid less than 100!

Hey racer do you have a picture of them and how would I install them in my car? I assume they have the amp built in?

IronCobra,

Looks good! Did you ever mount your 6.5's in the rear deck and build the box for them?

It has been a challenge to get good sound in this car. I have settled on Infinity Kappas in the front, Polk Momo's in the rear doors and a single low powered 10" mounted in the rear deck. The Polks actually came with ~3/4" mounting ring that savedme from having to make one. The 10" just fit in the deck using 3/4" ply. I did not have any luck with 3 different boxes in the trunk. I've got a nice flat signal down to ~ 25Hz but would really like to make the 6.5's work.

Hey xtyperick you got any pictures of that? You ever think about taking a set of 6x9's in the deck hooked up to an amp?

Would it possible to install any subwoofer or speaker in the rear deck if you have the base sound system (i.e. no pre-installed subwoofer)?

I think the easiest way to do that would be to get an aftermarket stereo!

Ok, here's the deal.

When I mounted and created a box for the 6.5s in the rear deck I could not eliminate all the rattles NOR could I get the sound I wanted into the cabin.

I created a 10" speaker box that mounts agains the back of the seat and bolts to the top of the deck to keep some moving. It sounds really good.

IronCobra,

Nice clean install, that’s where my amp is going to end up too. I haven’t cleaned up the wiring on mine till I get the sound/config I want...and ya, still have some rattles.

Is that a band pass box, or do you have the speaker firing up?

aquill1, I'll try if I can figure out how to post a picture. I hadn't thought about 6x9's...suppose you could make them fit...and there is a small amp for the sub. I was trying not to cut too much of the X. The mounting for the 10" uses the X factory bolts on the rear deck and only required drilling 1 hole.

gotti15,I have the base system and you can add a sub using a line converter. Although my audible signal is flat to ~25 Hz, the X head unit CD player is capable of signals down to 20Hz, even with the line converter...Checked it with a test CD.

aquill1,

I use this but I'm sure there are otheres out there.

I've had it for a while. I think you can get them from musicdirect.com or maybe amazon.

Not crazy about the music on it but it really helps in setting up a system.

Can't help you there, you almost need a few different options to play what your potential buyer likes. Quickest way to scare off a guy who likes Classical it to have Linkin Park blasting away, even if the system is decent.
