Recently my 05 x-type has been having issues when I place the car in reverse. The indicator will continuously beep at a medium pace even though there is no object behind me. It behaves this way about 50% of the time.

what could be causing this, and is there a easy fix? Any help would be appreciated.

 

key on engine off, trans in reverse. go to the back and listen for ticking from each sensor. if theres no ticking the sensor isnt working, but this useally cause a solid toone when put in rev, not beeping. But a body shop that sprayed too thick a paint coat will give a false detection from a sensor. Walk up to each one and see if the tone goes fast to solid detecting movement. If so that sensor is working, look for no change then you have found the culprit.
