Default Coolant leak 04 X-Type

Coming home today I noticed a smell of antifreeze coming into the car. The temp gauge was a notch passed halfway. I turned off the AC and it went back down to 1/2 way and went back and forth until I got home. Checked under the hood and noticed a leak from someplace. There was a puddle of antifreeze underneath the overflow tank and on the right side of the engine bay. It was raining so I really could not see where it was coming from.

Any ideas? Or common problems with leaks around that area?

Check the 2 small return hoses top right and left of the tank. The plastic nipples tend to rot and crack, if not a bad hose. Make sure and check while the car is running, you should see the drip.

yeah, sounds like the notorious nipple on the side of the cooling tank strikes again. New tank is abour $160 online + installation.

Thats what it was.. I filled it and was going to drop the car off at the dealer and it all poured right out. Thats when I noticed the nipple broke off on the left side of the tank, so I took it and shoved it into the overflow and drove to the dealer. Its there right now and I have a Ford Edge as the loaner. Should have it back later on today.

Would this be covered under warranty? Since this must be a known issue on the X-Type?

Well it was all fixed today.. They replaced the overflow tank and did a pressure test and found out the water pump gasket was leaking. This was also replaced and it was all done under warranty. All I had to pay for is $10 to fill up the loaner car I had.

I have said it before and I will say it again.. Great Neck Jaguar is a great dealership and a great place for service. Anyone looking for quality work done on their Jaguar should go there.
