Default Coolant ratio.

I repaired a small leak from my water/coolant reservoir about 6 weeks ago.

Yesterday it started leaking again and I was a long way from home, had to stop off at a few garages on the way home to keep topping it up with water.

Once I have repaired the leak I want to drain the cooling system and refill. I understand the cooling system takes about 8.25 Litres of fluid and in the handbook it recommends 50% water and 50% coolant.

Is that the ratio I should use for South Africa?

I have stopped at many garages and asked for the orange coolant that Jaguar recommend but nobody has it, they only have the blue coolant.

Is it necessary to use the orange coolant?

2005, yes, the 50/50 mix of coolant is the recommended amount for 99% of the world. Only in extreme situations should this be varied from.

As for the color of coolant, the big thing that you need to look for is if you are changing color, that the new stuff is 100% compatible with all types of coolant. Some are, some aren't. So, I can't say that Brand A will be good and Brand B will not be. Read the bottle and see what it says. If it doesn't say that it is "100% compatible", then assume it isn't.

As for having to use orange coolant, no you don't have to use it. But, like I am eluding to, if you go with another color, you will need to either use a compatible coolant or you will need to flush the coolant system and then install the new stuff.

Thank-you for the reply.

I have bought Sasol coolant conc 100.

On the bottle it says "Sasol coolant conc 100 protects the cooling system against corrosion, freezing and over-heating. It is also NAP free.
Formulated to comply with the requirements stipulated by: Mercedes-Benz sheet
325.0;SANS 1251".

In all cases the coolant must meet Jaguar requirements as listed in the owner's manual. The colour is irrelevant
