Coolant Reservoir Cap Separated?
Hi folks!
Long time no see ;-)
So, today I had to make a trip out of town and did my usually checks on oil and coolant (I live in very cold North Dakota). I saw my coolant was a little low and was going to top it off with some distilled water.
Anyhow, I did the normal push down and turn until it is off the threads and just spins - and then I grabbed it by both sides underneath to yank up hard (we all know what I mean) but this time just the outer cap came off and the guts stayed in the damn coolant reservoir!!! What the hell??? LOL. I was freaking out because I had to drive a 130 mile round trip for a Dr. appointment and here I am staring at a cap in one hand and a big yellow circle stuck in my coolant tank. Anyhow, I put the cap on, gave it a whack downwards and then screwed it down tight and let my car run a few minutes to make sure it did not leak. The good news is it did not and I was able to complete my trip.
So, now that I am home...what do I do to get piece of mind? Now I have heard of people who take the cap off and put super glue on the yellow top of the part stuck in the coolant tank, screw the cap down hard...let it set up for a bit and then remove it again the standard way and it will then come out.
However, if any of you have gone through this before, please share how to get the stuck part out, and what I should do? Also where can I buy an OEM cap only without having to buy the tank also?
Any and all help appreciated. Thank you
peace out,
daddylogan

Not sure about over there but in UK they are usually easily available on ebay.
I had similar happen on one of my X types and managed to get the bottom part out with some grips if I remember right.Topped up then popped the bottom part back in and screwed on the top .It didn't leak and I used it until the new one I ordered arrived.
Good luck
PS I think they will all pull apart if they get stuck but I have heard say that they will click back together and still be usable..But I'm not sure so I ordered a new one.
