Decisions decisions!
Hi all
I'm nq to this one, but after a little advice on the positives and negatives of owning an x-type. Looking to get one for a commuter - a diesel - and was wondering whether anyone could offer any advice on what to look out for. Especially interested to know whether they are reliable and whether there is anything specific I should look out for / be aware of.
Many thanks in advance.
Regards
Shaun

Ok, my experience with my xtype is different because I own a petrol version and we don't actually have the diesel versions in the US, but I LOVE my car! There is no car out there that is a better deal than the xtype! It's an amazing commuter car because it's quite and very comfortable and has very supportive seats. Just drive one, and you'll be hooked. That's how it was for me and I couldn't go back.
As for things to look out for. These cars are very reliable if they have been taken care of. If they haven't been taken car of, they will go downhill fast. The biggest problem areas on the xtype are the transfer case (not on diesels so you don't have to worry about that) and then there's the dreaded automatic transmission that gets really strange when the ATF level is just a hair below what is should be. If you ever see something on your future jag to be that you find suspicious, investigate it, and if you don't like it, you will find another one. DON'T SETTLE FOR A BAD CAR!
I'm sure you'll love your new xtype. I do, and I have a petrol version which has a few more problems than the diesels.

Well, I've done it! Bought myself a x-type 2.2d (2006 on a 55 plate) and absolutely love it! Black with black leather and all the toys, full jag service history, full mot and tax etc, so I'm a very happy chappy! Fingers crossed she won't blow up or anything silly, but cant see why she would....thanks for all your advice.

Wahey, congrats Rimbo.............see you went for the 2.2d as well, nice one.
A really good mix of both fuel economy and peformance.......a fairly quick diesel!
The 2.2 is the same engine as that used in the Ford Mondeo ST Tdci which is rock solid and generally pretty bulletproof, good for mega miles.
The X type shares around 20% commonality of parts with the Mondy ( mostly running gear ) so look out for cheaper deals on parts that have the Ford Logo as opposed to the Jaguar one.
You've went for an 06 as well I see which is great, as most of the tiny little niggles on the earlier versions were sorted by around 04, so should be good there.
Share some pics when you can.
