Question delay with air con fans starting up

Hello, I have had this issue since I got the car - I leave the air conditioning fan in the on state when I turn off the car so it starts up after I turn on the ignition without me having to mess with the switch.
Since I have had the car there has been a few seconds delay from when the engine fires and the air con fan starts up. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or not but the delay seems to have gotten longer of late - now I have to wait about 15 to 20 seconds before the fan comes on.
Is this normal or is there an issue with the system?

Normal, the small vent next to the steering column has a sensor in it that "reads" the air/temp. Then I guess it tells the system in "auto" what to do. i.e. heat/cool. A/C on year round in mine, winter helps dehumidify, summer is obvious.

Thanks for the confirmation, Dell Galley.
