Do I have to change the whole ensemble of upper radiator hose?
I discovered that both rubber hose parts of my radiator upper hose have bulging ends and a good faith mechanic told me that I have to change that hose. But, he said I must provide him with genuine Jaguar parts. I again am confused by such mechanic's ultimatums and would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me:
(1) Do I have to replace the whole radiator's upper hose ensemble (thermostat included) which involves some complicated mechanical work, or
(2) Just replacing the two rubber parts of upper radiator's hose could be enough.
(3) If just the rubber parts, do I need to empty the coolant?
Mona (my kitty) does not overheat and has no leak.
I hope that to change just the rubber parts could be an easy job.
Did anybody do such a radiator upper hose replacement?
Thank you.

marcela, as for changing the hoses, yes, you will need to drain out most of the coolant. There is no way around that.
As for replacing the 2 hoses, unfortunately, given the requirement that the mechanic has given you, you will have to buy the whole assembly. I have found the whole assemblies on e-bay for $89.00 delivered to your house with jaguar labeling on it. Otherwise, you are going to end up having to go to a parts store, find a hose that is close and then modify it to make it work.
marcella: Thermo's advice is sound - it is wise for you to buy the entire upper radiator hose and thermostat assembly for $89 with S&H on eBay from SNG Barrett, who sells OEM Jaguar parts. This part replaces both bulging hoses on your car, plus the thermostat and the horizontal black plastic pipe under the air box, which can crack and slowly leak coolant if you don't replace it. Here's the link to the $89 part Thermo recommends:
When your mechanic installs it, they must drain coolant, and refill the coolant to complete the repair. A gallon of coolant is ~$15, so that's not a biggie. Most of the cost is the mechanic's labor. Has the mechanic quoted a price to do the repair, assuming you buy and provide the $89 hose and thermostat assembly?
They never do in advance of the work. They just say $80/hour but not how many hours would take them to do the job. I never buy from ebay/internet but I found "genuine Jaguar" parts at jaguarlandroveroemparts.com. Meantime I am again in NY, should I look for a NY mechanic (NY mechanics don't like my PA license plates) or a PA mechanic (they don't like my non PA rural Jaguar). When the job takes more than a day I need double transportation (one to take me home and one to take me back to the shop). In NY I have public transportation all over the city. So far so good with the new sensors except the disappointment with the mechanics lying to me back in 2015 that they changed my downstream sensor with a Bosch (15936) when Mazda dealer sold Mona to me and engine light was very upset (they did not change anything). Thank you for your response.
marcella: SNG Barrett is a reputable supplier of Jaguar OEM parts and sponsors this forum. Their eBay is $89 with S&H for the upper radiator hoses and thermostat housing, part C2S43430: https://www.ebay.com/itm/263176798540
I don't dispute SNG Barratt's prestige, but they are located in G.B and I just don't give my credit card over internet preferring somebody located in US.
I spoke with them (the SNG Barratt from Manchester, NH) and they only sell the C2S43430# top radiator hose (the $78.40) which is not a genuine Jaguar with no marking or packaging from Jaguar and not the C2S43430 (the $120.27) which comes from Jaguar UK. They don't even have the C2S43430 (without #), and they sold by ebay only the C2S43430#. The argument is that the snob mechanic, not me, wants something with a label "Jaguar" on the hoses and also that you all send me with the best intention ever to buy what SNG Barratt (from Manchester, NH?) sells via ebay. The guy from SNG Barratt US is waiting for my decision. What should I do?
Thanks you all.

Buy the pattern part and tell the mechanic to get on with it. It's your dollars he's spending.
You can always write Jaguar on the box if it makes him feel better.
I bought from the Jaguar dealer the part but there was no box as they...
They keep the parts on shelves. The Jaguar dealer from NY sold me one for $150 (taxes included), I was mad at them saying that that part did not have the same length like the hose on my car and I will speak with the first mechanic that jumps on my way (NY) home to confirm my opinion but...
... Well, the first mechanic liked very much my no box hose, installed it, said that if it is from the Jaguar dealer, it should be okay, and about one hour and a half later I was leaving him. I guess I did a good thing listening to your advice, Iownme, Thermo, DWClapp and Norri.
Thank you.
