Default Do i need this?...$437

yep the Housegroove drama continues. (yes i am still trying the third person thing?)

The plastic/rubber skid plate under the front of the car going from the ground effects to around the front tires crack and is dragging on the ground. I took a look and it cracked and ripped off where the two middle bolts hold it on and the fron part and back ar still connected some how a middle piece was made buy some snow hill? I tied it back on for a temp fix untill i can go to the dealer.

a friend told me the dealer may have broke it when i went to check out the whine moan sound i was having? FJT is that possible.

I would like to take this off and not replace it, but i am worrried about the stuff it covers and guards. The snow and roads where i am at are horrible and the salt build up is worse.

any ideas?

if it is what i think it is, i broke mine on a pot hole from hell! i noticed that when driving at high speeds the car felt like something was holding it back. like something was not right. i went to the shop and they temp fixed it. they told me it is just for looks unless i plan on driving over 100mph, then it might mess up the aerodynamics of the car.

You all are talking about as referred to by JTIS as the "Lower Tray" it protects the bottom of the radiator and A/C condenser...It also helps support the front lower valance lip from curling backwards..It is held in place by 19 torx head screws..removing it is not needed to get and/or remove the oil filter...I can get tooil filterwithout even jacking up the car.

Oh that. They normally get broken on a curb or in parking lots with the concrete stops. Doubtful the dealer broke it, but anything is possible.

Like Dennis said, no need to remove to get to oil filter. I think the only time I remove that piece is to remove radiator/condensor assy.

That makes your chest about what 4 inches thick as I can barely get my head underneath the front bumper!

The guys are right though the oil filter and oil pan are exposed and the piece doesn't have to be removed to get at either. Guaranteed unknowingly you pulled too far up on a curb and scraped the thing right off, they are just below the bottom of the bumper. Your car gets even lower in parking spots once you pull into other cars ruts that were caused by the cement/concrete sinking which makes the curbs or parking stops even taller and your car more vulnerable to damage.[:@]

Seriously it's a bit of asqueeze, however if your clearence is 4" then you have a lowered X or have some extreme ground effects...but I can manage the whole oil change and never need to jack it up...BTW, I'm 6'4 and 260lbs with a 48" chest..

sorry for the late update,
I took it in last monday to the dealer, they said i did a really good job of securing it but were it was cracked all i needed was a curb or another heavy snow and it would ripp off. They said i need it cause it protects the radiator and some other stuff, and with the low ride hieght i really need it.

IT COST ME $437.00 for a piece of plastic under the car??? labor included in the price [:@]

they also did a ??point inspection for free and found that i need new brakes and rotors all around (everything else is ok)

the estimate;
Rear brakes w/ rotor $517
Front with rotors $598
that over a grand in brakes? i will do it myself when spring gets here. and will cost me $300 for parts and $12.99 for case old style [:'(]

Man housegroove I feel bad for you but how come you didnt' just order that plastic for underneath there and put it on yourself. A new fender liner for my drivers side after the pot hole was only 169.50 from the dealer (according to collision shop paperwork) and that's gotta be not much less than what that piece costs.

Dennis I have a sport but still I can't even stick my head underneath my car and I haven't done anything to the suspension. BTW I'm 6' 200lbs and have no idea how big my chest is, but there's no way I could get under the car without ramps or a lift.

The thermostat is easy to do if you can get under the front end. There was a service action to install a worm clamp on the hose beside the spring clamp to prevent it getting forced off. Just get the thermostat. Three bolts hold it in and get the worm clamp. Easy job.

HA! I would have laughed and walked out. I did my brakes (pads and rotors), all around, for less than $300 using parts from Welsh. Look for my thread, "Did front brake today" or something like that..
