Had to remove my front door panel to get to the electrical on the door mirror for the X-type. In doing so, two of the upper trim panel clips broke. In checking the parts catalogue, they are C2S33673 (brown) and C2S33674 (Violet), which are on the upper portion of the door. Both discontinued by Jaguar. However, similar clips (white) are available on eBay and elsewhere. One site (JagBits) states the following: Replaces C2S24977 WHITE CLIP, C2S33673 (C2S33673010).
My question is, why the different colors? Does that indicate a different hardness to the plastic clips? The dimensions appear to be the same whether brown, violet or white. And why the different colors if the receptacles are the same? As a note, there was only the one brown one, with the remaining 5 clips in the door violet in color, so why the one brown one?

Uuuummmmm...because they were broken off before and replaced with what was on hand?

 

I've owned the vehicle since new and this is the first time the panel has been removed, so previous breakage unlikely. But your remark about using what was on hand got me to thinking. Upon more careful review of the part description, the white/brown part number specifies left (door?), and the violet specifies right (door?). So the color coding may be a simple matter of part allocation on the production line during assembly. Since by all appearances they are the same and interchangeable, the factory ran out of brown/white for the left side and used the violet in its place? I'm going to go with that and get an order what is available on eBay.
