early 2004 steering rack
I have a 2004 early production base 2,5 X-type with a failing steering rack. Can I use a rack from a 2002 or 2003 model? It has the servo-tronic sensor and my mechanic has not been able to source one from 2004.

chef, you need to look at your VIN number. Is the last 6 digits on/before D83512? If yes, then yes you can use a 2002/2003 rack. But, if it is after that (ie, EXXXXX), then you are stuck having to find a used unit from a late 2004+ vehicle.
